About The Position

The HVAC Technician maintains the safe operating condition of the heating system and hot-water distribution systems in the facilities owned or operated by the district. The incumbent will inspect, troubleshoot and repair heating and air-conditioning components for the proper system operation of the facilities. In addition to monitoring the performance, they will develop operational and maintenance procedures appropriate for HVAC district systems, and may evaluate the installation and verify that work meets code and quality standards. The HVAC Technician will also implement a district-wide HVAC planned maintenance program and recommend the purchase of supplies and equipment for HVAC maintenance and repairs, and perform other such duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma (or G.E.D.)
  • 5 years of experience in HVAC repair and maintenance.
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter.
  • Must be skilled in the use of materials, equipment, tools and methods of the HVAC trade.
  • Must have knowledge of HVAC-related building codes and safety regulations.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver materials up to fifty pounds regularly and in excess of one hundred pounds periodically.
  • Must be able to read and write to complete forms and reports.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S. at the time of application.
  • Must pass State and Federal background checks, per Dayton Public Schools policy.
  • Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.

  • Military service (applicants will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained).
  • Current employment with Dayton Public Schools (for promotional credit).
