About The Position

The HVAC Technician Apprentice position is a part-time apprentice role based at the Greater Lexington branch. From January through March, apprentices work as paid seasonal employees in the Operations department three days per week and attend in-house HVAC installation classes two days per week at the same location. The training program includes 224 hours of hands-on instruction over 28 days with a Johnstone instructor. Its residential-focused curriculum may also apply to commercial HVAC work. Apprentices gain practical knowledge and skills through classes and by working with staff to learn about HVAC equipment and parts. After completing the program, Johnstone works with local residential HVAC contractor customers to place each apprentice in a full-time installation technician position. Candidates must have a clear driving record and criminal record and pass a drug screening. While at the branch, apprentices support customer service, receive and process shipments, inspect and store products, prepare customer orders, help load products, process returns, and assist with housekeeping. During training, they learn service and installation techniques, HVAC safety and best practices, environmental impacts and EPA certification, equipment operation, basic ductwork installation and calculations, and the use of HVAC tools and test equipment. Johnstone Supply is a wholesale supplier to the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration industry.
