HV Battery NVH/Durability CAE Engineer

Ford•Dearborn, MI
•$65,100 - $166,200•Hybrid

About The Position

Ford is seeking an experienced structures CAE engineer to lead structural design work for high-voltage battery internals and related systems. The engineer will work with battery design and release engineers on battery technologies and use CAE tools to help keep the battery functional environment within specified operating conditions. The role involves collaborating across the Electrified Propulsion Engineering organization, battery stakeholders, vehicle teams, laboratory and testing teams, suppliers, and overseas CAE teams. The position supports battery architecture development through structural analysis of high-voltage battery packs at system, subsystem, and component levels. It includes building and debugging finite element models, running simulations, evaluating results, guiding design decisions, and correlating CAE models with physical test data. The position is hybrid and requires onsite work four or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • More than 4 years of experience working with structural components and designs.
  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work as a team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent degree.
  • 5 or more years of experience in CAE structural modeling and simulation analysis techniques for durability and NVH attributes.
  • Working knowledge of ABAQUS, Nastran, OptiStruct, Hypermesh, Teamcenter, and Vendure/FDYNAM.
  • Working knowledge of CAE tools for durability assessments such as nCode or equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of structural materials, high-strength materials, energy-flow theory, and analysis methods.
  • Experience with CAE preprocessing tools such as Hypermesh or equivalent for geometry cleanup and meshing, and ABAQUS, Nastran, or equivalent for solving and post-processing CAE models.
  • Familiarity with sheet-metal design specifications, structural testing setup, and data collection.
  • A record of innovative applications and ability to introduce new product-development ideas.
  • Working knowledge of optimization CAE tools such as modeFRONTIER and OptiStruct.
  • Experience in vibration and durability testing.
  • Ability to mentor young engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Build 3D battery internal structural analysis CAE models from CAD designs.
  • Debug complicated finite element models.
  • Perform 3D structural analysis simulations at system, subsystem, and component levels for high-voltage battery packs, supporting battery internals design development.
  • Evaluate structural analysis results and provide feedback and design direction to vehicle program and battery pack design teams.
  • Work with vehicle-level teams to obtain boundary conditions for battery-pack structural simulations.
  • Coordinate with battery laboratory and vehicle-level testing teams; specify instrumentation, process physical structural test results, and use the data to correlate CAE models.
  • Coordinate with extended CAE teams overseas on CAE meshing and geometric cleanup tasks.

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new-parent ramp-up programs, and subsidized backup childcare.
  • Family-building benefits, including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement and fertility treatments.
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members, and management leases.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Employee resource groups.
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service.
  • Paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
