Durability CAE Engineer

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

The Vehicle Durability CAE Engineer is responsible for designing, simulating, and validating vehicle components and systems to meet durability and structural performance targets. The role uses finite element analysis (FEA) and multi-body dynamics (MBD) tools to predict and resolve durability issues across full vehicle platforms. The engineer collaborates with design and test teams, analyzes simulation and physical test data, and communicates findings to cross-functional teams and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in CAE durability analysis.
  • Proficiency in ANSA, Abaqus, Nastran, and Metapost.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle suspension systems, structural mechanics, and fatigue theory.
  • Familiarity with nCode or DesignLife for fatigue analysis.
  • Ability to interpret real-world and simulation data to ensure model fidelity.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with ADAMS for multi-body dynamics modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute CAE simulations to assess durability performance of vehicle structures and components.
  • Use ANSA, Abaqus, Nastran, and nCODE to model and analyze full vehicle systems.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to assess solution feasibility and alignment with DSM (Durability Strength & Misuse) requirements.
  • Perform root cause analysis of failures observed during physical validation testing and propose corrective actions.
  • Post-process simulation data, including damage calculations, load histograms, and comparative assessments.
  • Document and present findings to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Maintain and update simulation models based on the latest design iterations and test feedback.
  • Coordinate with test engineers to correlate simulation results with physical test data.
