Durability CAE Engineer

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

The Vehicle Durability CAE Engineer designs, simulates, and validates vehicle components and systems to meet durability and structural performance targets. The role uses finite element analysis (FEA) and multi-body dynamics (MBD) tools to predict and resolve durability issues across full vehicle platforms. The engineer develops and executes durability simulations, models and analyzes full vehicle systems, and works with design and test engineering teams to assess proposed solutions, investigate physical-test failures, correlate simulation results with test data, and maintain models as designs evolve. The role also includes processing simulation results, documenting and presenting findings to cross-functional teams and leadership, and ensuring alignment with Durability Strength & Misuse (DSM) requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in CAE durability analysis.
  • Proficiency in ANSA, Abaqus, Nastran, and Metapost.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle suspension systems, structural mechanics, and fatigue theory.
  • Familiarity with nCode or DesignLife for fatigue analysis.
  • Ability to interpret real-world and simulation data to ensure model fidelity.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with ADAMS for multi-body dynamics modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute CAE simulations to assess durability performance of vehicle structures and components.
  • Use ANSA, Abaqus, Nastran, and nCODE to model and analyze full vehicle systems.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to assess the feasibility of proposed solutions and align them with DSM (Durability Strength & Misuse) requirements.
  • Perform root cause analysis of failures observed during physical validation testing and propose corrective actions.
  • Post-process simulation data, including damage calculations, load histograms, and comparative assessments.
  • Document and present findings to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Maintain and update simulation models based on the latest design iterations and test feedback.
  • Coordinate with test engineers to correlate simulation results with physical test data.
