About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist provides hands-on human resources support across the employee lifecycle. This role partners with managers to support staffing, recruitment, onboarding, training, leave management, and benefits administration while ensuring compliance with California and federal employment laws. The HR Generalist balances operational execution with consultative support to promote a compliant, equitable, and mission-driven workplace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience administering leaves of absence and benefits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including HR systems and standard office software.
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with hiring managers to assess workforce needs in alignment with organizational programs and strategic goals.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, background checks, and offers.
  • Ensure recruitment practices comply with California employment laws and nonprofit best practices, including fair chance hiring and equal employment opportunity requirements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate onboarding to ensure compliance with California new hire requirements, including mandatory notices and forms.
  • Support training initiatives related to workplace conduct, harassment prevention (AB 1825 / SB 1343), and other required compliance training.
  • Partner with leadership to identify training and development needs that support employee growth and mission effectiveness.
  • Administer and track employee leaves of absence in compliance with applicable laws, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA/FEHA, paid sick leave, and local ordinances.
  • Coordinate the interactive process for reasonable accommodations.
  • Partner with payroll and benefits providers to ensure accurate leave tracking, pay coordination, and employee communication.
  • Support employee benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and employee inquiries.
  • Assist with annual open enrollment, benefits communications, and vendor coordination.
  • Ensure benefits practices comply with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure HR practices align with California labor and employment laws, including wage and hour, record retention, and required postings and notices.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data.
  • Support audits, reporting, and continuous improvement of HR processes and policies.
