About The Position

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a Human Resource Assistant. In this role, you will collaborate with the HR Specialist and support the Employee and Labor Relations (ER/LR) section within the Human Resources department. VCS has delivered benefits to millions of Veterans since 1946 and is a program office in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) that is Veteran-facing, providing America’s Veterans enrolled in VA’s Health Care System, their families, caregivers, and VA employees, with reasonably priced merchandise and services essential to their comfort and well-being.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of recruiting experience is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficiency in operating computer systems, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the HR team by posting job openings and managing recruitment ads across various platforms.
  • Maintain and update job openings in the applicant tracking system (ATS) to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist managers with recruiting tools and processes to streamline hiring efforts.
  • Coordinate and participate in job fairs and other hiring events to attract top talent.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including background checks and reference verifications.
  • Create reports, letters, and presentations using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Perform and adapt to additional responsibilities as needed.
