About The Position

The Hot Deli Clerk assists with food preparation, storage and stocking, food safety, sanitation, merchandising, customer service, and checkout. The role helps maintain a clean and safe food production area, monitors product freshness, and supports promotional displays and other business needs.

Requirements

• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Working knowledge of the types of ingredients, vegetables, and meats carried in the department.
• Good customer service skills.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to visually identify product quality and freshness.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Good manual dexterity for using processing equipment such as cutters or labeling equipment.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds or more with appropriate equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous kitchen, culinary, deli, restaurant, kitchen management, cooking, or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing food items, including washing, cutting, weighing, and other required procedures.
• Transfer or withdraw stocks, supplies, packaging materials, and food ingredients to and from cold or dry storage.
• Monitor product expiration dates, remove older products, and stock newer products on time.
• Clean the food production area, including floors, walls, countertops, and tables; clean hood filters regularly; and wash dishes and sanitize equipment used in production.
• Follow food safety practices and OSHA safety practices when using dishwashing chemicals.
• Handle expired and recalled products properly.
• Maintain accurate logs in accordance with company policy.
• Set up and take down promotional product displays and ensure shelf tags are labeled correctly.
• Keep refrigerators neat and well stocked, with promotional items visible to customers.
• Keep aisles and common walking areas clean and clear of debris to help prevent injuries.
• Assist customers with orders and answer their questions.
• Follow cash-handling procedures and complete checkout accurately and efficiently.
• Perform other duties as needed for business needs.
