About The Position

The Hot Deli Clerk assists with food preparation and production, product stocking and rotation, sanitation, merchandising, and customer service. The role follows food-safety and OSHA practices, maintains accurate product logs, and handles customer orders and checkout transactions. It also includes keeping the production area and customer walkways clean and performing other duties as business needs require.

Requirements

• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Working knowledge of ingredients, vegetables, and meats carried in the department.
• Good customer service skills.
• Good time-management skills.
• Ability to visually identify product quality and freshness.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Good manual dexterity for using processing equipment such as cutters or labeling equipment.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds or more with appropriate equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous kitchen, culinary, deli, restaurant, kitchen management, cooking, or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing food items, including washing, cutting, weighing, and other required procedures.
• Move stocks, supplies, packaging materials, and food ingredients to and from cold or dry storage.
• Monitor expiration dates, remove older products, and stock newer products on time.
• Clean food production areas, hood filters, and used equipment, including utensils, pans, and trays; perform dishwashing and sanitation.
• Follow food-safety practices and OSHA safety practices when using dishwashing chemicals.
• Handle expired and recalled products properly and maintain accurate logs in accordance with company policy.
• Set up and take down promotional displays, ensure shelf tags are correct, and keep refrigerators neat, stocked, and promotional items visible.
• Keep aisles and common walking areas clear of debris to prevent injuries.
• Assist customers with orders and answer their questions.
• Follow cash-handling procedures and complete checkout accurately and efficiently.
• Perform other duties as required by business needs.
