About The Position

The Hot Deli Clerk assists with food preparation and production, inventory handling, product freshness and rotation, sanitation, food safety, merchandising, and customer service. The role also involves accurate cash handling and checkout, keeping the department and common areas clean, and performing other duties as business needs require.

Requirements

• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Working knowledge of the ingredients, vegetables, and meats carried in the department.
• Good customer service skills.
• Good time-management skills.
• Ability to visually identify product quality and freshness.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Good manual dexterity for using processing equipment such as cutters or labeling equipment.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds or more with appropriate equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous kitchen, culinary, deli, restaurant, kitchen management, cooking, or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing food items, including washing, cutting, weighing, and other required procedures.
• Transfer or withdraw stocks, supplies, packaging materials, and food ingredients to and from cold or dry storage.
• Monitor product expiration dates and remove older products while stocking newer products on time.
• Clean the food production area, including floors, walls, countertops, and tables; regularly clean hood filters; wash dishes; and sanitize equipment used in production.
• Follow food safety practices during food processing and comply with OSHA safety practices when using dishwashing chemicals.
• Handle expired and recalled products properly and maintain accurate logs in accordance with company policy.
• Set up and take down promotional displays, ensure shelf tags are labeled correctly, and keep refrigerators neat, stocked, and promotional items visible.
• Keep aisles and common walking areas clear of debris to help prevent injuries.
• Assist customers with orders and answer their questions.
• Follow cash-handling procedures and complete checkout accurately and efficiently.
• Perform other duties as required by business needs.
