The Hot Deli Clerk assists with food preparation and production, stock handling, product freshness, sanitation, food safety, merchandising, and customer service. The role also involves accurate cash handling and checkout, along with other duties as needed for business needs.

Requirements

• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Working knowledge of the types of ingredients, vegetables, and meats carried in the department.
• Good customer service skills.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to visually identify product quality and freshness.
• Standing for extended periods is commonly required.
• Good manual dexterity for using processing equipment such as a cutter or labeling equipment.
• Ability to lift 30 lbs. or more with appropriate equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous kitchen, culinary, deli, restaurant, kitchen management, cooking, or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing food items, including washing, cutting, weighing, and other required procedures.
• Transfer or withdraw stocks, supplies, packaging materials, and food ingredients to and from cold or dry storage.
• Monitor product expiration dates, remove older products, and stock newer products on time.
• Maintain cleanliness in food production areas, clean hood filters regularly, and wash dishes and sanitize equipment used in production.
• Follow food safety practices during food processing.
• Comply with OSHA safety practices when using dishwashing chemicals.
• Handle expired and recalled products properly.
• Keep accurate logs in accordance with company policy.
• Set up and take down promotional product displays.
• Ensure shelf tags are labeled correctly.
• Keep refrigerators neat and well stocked, with promotional items visible to customers.
• Keep aisles and common walking areas clear of debris to help prevent injury.
• Assist customers with orders and answer their questions.
• Follow cash handling procedures and complete checkout accurately and efficiently.
• Perform other duties as needed for business needs.
