About The Position

The Hot Deli Clerk assists with food preparation and production, manages stock and product freshness, maintains a clean and sanitary work area, and follows food safety and OSHA practices. The role also involves maintaining displays and refrigerators, assisting customers, and accurately completing checkout and cash-handling procedures.

Requirements

• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Working knowledge of ingredients, vegetables, and meats carried in the department.
• Good customer service skills.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to visually identify product quality and freshness.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Good manual dexterity for using processing equipment such as cutters or labeling equipment.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds or more with appropriate equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous kitchen, culinary, deli, restaurant, kitchen management, cooking, or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing food items, including washing, cutting, and weighing ingredients.
• Transfer or withdraw stock, supplies, packaging materials, and food ingredients to and from cold or dry storage.
• Monitor product expiration dates, remove older products, and stock newer products on time.
• Clean the food production area, hood filters, and equipment used in production; perform dishwashing and sanitation.
• Follow food safety practices during food processing.
• Comply with OSHA safety practices when using dishwashing chemicals.
• Handle expired and recalled products properly.
• Keep accurate logs in accordance with company policy.
• Set up and take down promotional product displays.
• Ensure shelf tags are labeled correctly.
• Keep refrigerators neat and well stocked, with promotional items visible to customers.
• Keep aisles and common walking areas clean and clear of debris.
• Assist customers with orders and answer their questions.
• Follow cash-handling procedures and complete checkout accurately and efficiently.
• Perform other duties as required by business needs.
