About The Position

The Hot Deli Clerk assists with food preparation and production, stocking and maintaining food displays and refrigerators, keeping the work area clean and sanitary, and serving customers. The role follows food safety, OSHA, and company procedures, including proper handling of expired or recalled products, cash handling, and accurate recordkeeping. The listed pay range is $17.50–$19 per hour; this is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation.

Requirements

• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Working knowledge of the types of ingredients, vegetables, and meats carried in the department.
• Good customer service skills.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to visually identify product quality and freshness.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Good manual dexterity for using processing equipment such as cutters or labeling tools.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds or more with appropriate equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Previous kitchen, culinary, deli, restaurant, kitchen management, cooking, or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing food items, including washing, cutting, weighing, and other required procedures.
• Transfer or withdraw stock, supplies, packaging materials, and food ingredients to and from cold or dry storage.
• Monitor product expiration dates, remove older products, and stock newer products on time.
• Clean food production areas, including floors, walls, countertops, and tables; clean hood filters regularly; wash dishes; and sanitize equipment used in production.
• Follow food safety practices during food processing.
• Comply with OSHA safety practices when using dishwashing chemicals.
• Handle expired and recalled products properly.
• Keep accurate logs in accordance with company policy.
• Set up and take down promotional product displays.
• Ensure shelf tags are labeled correctly.
• Keep refrigerators neat and stocked, with promotional items visible to customers.
• Keep aisles and common walking areas clean and clear of debris to prevent injury.
• Assist customers with orders and answer their questions.
• Follow cash handling procedures and complete checkout accurately and efficiently.
• Perform other duties as needed for business needs.
