Hospitality Manager

Chestnut Mtn Ski Resort•Galena, IL

About The Position

Chestnut Mountain Resort is seeking a service-focused, hands-on Hospitality Manager to lead front-of-house restaurant operations, bar service, and wedding and special-event beverage execution. The role combines team leadership and day-to-day operational accountability with active participation in guest service. The manager builds a capable team, delivers consistent hospitality standards, and strengthens beverage performance across the resort. This is a working management position rather than a primarily office-based role. The manager is expected to be visible on the floor, particularly during peak dining periods, busy weekends, holidays, ski season, and major weddings or events, balancing administrative work with direct service leadership. The role directly leads front-of-house personnel, bar operations, and wedding and event beverage service, and collaborates with—but does not supervise—the culinary team. Performance is evaluated through staffing and training consistency, guest service execution, beverage cost and inventory accuracy, and reliable wedding bar delivery.

Requirements

  • Prior supervisory or management experience in restaurants, bars, resorts, or hospitality operations.
  • Demonstrated strength in hands-on shift leadership, staffing, training, and guest recovery.
  • Knowledge of beverage purchasing, inventory control, menu development, and cost management.
  • Strong organization, communication, and judgment.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and key events.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain applicable food safety and responsible alcohol-service certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Wedding, banquet, or special-event beverage experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead shifts in person by setting priorities, conducting pre-shift briefings, monitoring service flow, and ensuring opening and closing standards are met.
  • Provide front-of-house service as needed, including hosting, food running, guest assistance, and bar support, while maintaining management oversight.
  • Coach employees in real time, resolve guest concerns, respond to staffing gaps, and maintain service quality under pressure.
  • Participate in wedding bar setup and readiness, supervise service, and complete post-event follow-through.
  • Recruit, onboard, schedule, train, and supervise servers, bartenders, hosts, and other front-of-house employees.
  • Develop service procedures, shift checklists, training standards, and accountability for guest-facing areas.
  • Coordinate with culinary leadership on service timing, guest feedback, and food menu presentation; kitchen staff remain under culinary management.
  • Manage bar service, beverage ordering, inventory counts, vendor coordination, and purchasing within approved budgets.
  • Develop and maintain cocktail, beer, wine, and seasonal beverage menus; review pricing, product mix, costs, and waste.
  • Train bartenders in recipe consistency, product knowledge, presentation, and responsible alcohol service.
  • Plan and execute wedding and event bar service, including beverage packages, specialty cocktails, staffing, ordering, and setup.
  • Coordinate with event staff on timelines and service requirements; oversee event execution, breakdown, and inventory reconciliation.
  • Manage front-of-house labor deployment, beverage cost controls, operating records, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain appropriate cleanliness, safety, sanitation, and alcohol-service practices in areas of responsibility.
