About The Position

The Hospital Veterinarian II will provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. This role utilizes a problem-based approach that includes developing a complete problem list for every patient examined, a complete list of differential diagnoses for each problem identified, a complete diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments based on interpretation of diagnostic test results leading to confirmed or suspected diagnoses. All patient observations, findings of exams and diagnostics, treatments and medications, client interactions, and tentative and confirmed diagnoses will be documented in the medical record in a concise and detailed fashion, according to practice convention. The veterinarian will perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory, and mass removals. Routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examination, evaluation of dental radiographs, as well as simple and complex extractions and oral surgical procedures will also be performed. Treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization will be developed based on a complete problem-based assessment. Effective communication with referral hospitals is essential to ensure continuity of patient care. The role also involves disseminating knowledge throughout staff to improve the level of care and communication provided to both patient and client. The work schedule is comprised of four (4) 10-hour days/week, including two (2) Saturdays/month.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or foreign equivalent and 3 years of experience as a Veterinarian.
  • Active California Veterinarian License without contingencies or ability to obtain by start date.
  • Current DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) license.
  • USDA Category I accreditation.
  • Demonstrated experience performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating treatment plans and exam findings to clients in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Demonstrated experience performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including but not limited to canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals and dentals.
  • Demonstrated experience with medical record documentation.
