About The Position

Unpaid hospice volunteers are needed to provide support to patients and their families in Wadsworth, Ohio, and surrounding areas. Volunteer activities include providing companionship, assisting with light household chores and errands, calling patients and families, making crafts for patients, and supporting bereaved families through mailings, phone calls, and in-home grief support visits.

Requirements

• Availability of time and skills which pertain to the volunteer activity
• Maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and take directions well.
• Empathetic listening skills
• Ability to understand and tolerate hardship stories.

Responsibilities

• Sitting with patients to provide companionship, play games, and offer a friendly, comforting presence.
• Assisting in light household chores and errands.
• Calling patients and their families to check on needs.
• Making blankets, quilts, pillows, and crafts for patients.
• Providing support to bereaved families by assisting with mailings, phone calls and in-home grief support visits.
