About The Position

Hospice volunteers are needed in Northfield, Ohio, to serve Summit County and surrounding areas. This is an unpaid, volunteer position with flexible time commitment available. Volunteers will provide companionship to patients, assist with light household chores and errands, call patients and families to check on needs, create crafts for patients, and support bereaved families through mailings, phone calls, and grief support visits.

Requirements

• Availability of time and skills which pertain to the volunteer activity
• Maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and take directions well.
• Empathetic listening skills
• Ability to understand and tolerate hardship stories.

Responsibilities

• Sitting with patients to provide companionship, play games, and offer a friendly, comforting presence.
• Assisting in light household chores and errands.
• Calling patients and their families to check on needs.
• Making blankets, quilts, pillows, and crafts for our patients.
• Providing support to our bereaved families by assisting with mailings, phone calls and in-home grief support visits.
