About The Position

Unpaid hospice volunteers are needed to provide support to patients and their families in Cuyahoga County and surrounding areas. Volunteer activities are varied and can include providing companionship, assisting with administrative tasks, creating comfort items, and supporting bereaved families. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.

Requirements

• Availability of time and skills that pertain to the volunteer activity
• Maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and take directions well.
• Empathetic listening skills
• Ability to understand and tolerate hardship stories.

Responsibilities

• Sitting with patients to provide companionship, play games, and offer a friendly, comforting presence.
• Sending encouraging letters and cards.
• Calling patients and their families to check on needs.
• Assisting with administrative duties at our Beachwood office.
• Making blankets, quilts, pillows, and crafts for our patients.
• Providing support to our bereaved families by assisting with mailings, phone calls, and in-home grief support visits.
