About The Position

Unpaid hospice volunteers are needed to provide companionship and support to patients and their families in Cuyahoga County and surrounding areas. Volunteer activities are varied and can include sitting with patients, writing letters, calling families, making crafts, and supporting bereaved families. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.

Requirements

• Availability of time and skills that pertain to the volunteer activity
• Maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and take directions well.
• Empathetic listening skills
• Ability to understand and tolerate hardship stories.

Responsibilities

• Sitting with patients to provide companionship, play games, and offer a friendly, comforting presence.
• Sending encouraging letters and cards.
• Calling patients and their families to check on needs.
• Making blankets, quilts, pillows, and crafts for patients.
• Providing support to bereaved families by assisting with mailings, phone calls, and in-home grief support visits.
