About The Position

Unpaid hospice volunteers are needed to provide companionship and support to patients and their families. This role involves sitting with patients, assisting with light household chores, making phone calls, and supporting bereaved families. Volunteers will also assist with administrative duties at the Beachwood office and create comforting items for patients.

Requirements

• Availability of time and skills which pertain to the volunteer activity
• Maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and take directions well.
• Empathetic listening skills
• Ability to understand and tolerate hardship stories.

Responsibilities

• Sitting with patients to provide companionship, play games, and offer a friendly, comforting presence.
• Sending encouraging letters and cards.
• Assisting in light household chores.
• Calling patients and their families to check on needs.
• Assisting with administrative duties at our Beachwood office.
• Making blankets, quilts, pillows, and crafts for our patients.
• Providing support to our bereaved families by assisting with mailings, phone calls and in-home grief support visits.
