About The Position
Unpaid hospice volunteers are needed in Rocky River, Ohio, to serve Cuyahoga County and surrounding areas. This role offers a variety of volunteer activities aimed at providing companionship and support to patients and their families. Volunteers will engage in activities such as sitting with patients to offer companionship, playing games, and providing a comforting presence. They may also assist with light household chores and errands, make phone calls to check on patients and families, create handmade items like blankets and crafts for patients, and support bereaved families through mailings, phone calls, and in-home grief support visits.
Requirements
- Availability of time and skills which pertain to the volunteer activity
- Maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and take directions well.
- Empathetic listening skills
- Ability to understand and tolerate hardship stories.
Responsibilities
- Sitting with patients to provide companionship, play games, and offer a friendly, comforting presence.
- Assisting in light household chores and errands.
- Calling patients and their families to check on needs.
- Making blankets, quilts, pillows, and crafts for patients.
