About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, Hamburg, Lancaster, Lockport, and the surrounding metropolitan area. The veterinarian visits pets at home, supporting families through end-of-life decisions and helping pets receive compassionate care in familiar surroundings. The role emphasizes unhurried appointments, listening and explaining options to families, and helping them say goodbye with dignity and peace. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling to appointments, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and access to experienced colleagues for support. Schedule options range from two to five days per week, including self-managed part-time scheduling. Full-time options include four- and five-day schedules, with guaranteed salary and quarterly bonus opportunities. Compensation is prorated for part-time schedules and ranges from $45,000 to $125,000 depending on schedule. Veterinarians choose four weekend days per month rather than working a fixed weekend rotation.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 90 lbs with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in clients’ homes.
Listen to families, answer questions, and help them navigate end-of-life decisions.

Travel independently to appointments across the service area.
