About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families throughout Westbury, Freeport, Oyster Bay, Woodbury, Levittown, Hempstead, Massapequa, Merrick, Oceanside, Wantagh, Seaford, and the surrounding New York metropolitan area. Care is provided in clients’ homes, at a gentle pace, with a few appointments per day so veterinarians can listen, explain, and support families without the pressure of a traditional clinic. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling to appointments, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. The position offers schedule choices ranging from two days per week to full-time, including self-managed part-time scheduling. Compensation is guaranteed and ranges from $65,000 to $155,000 depending on schedule, with quarterly bonus opportunities for full-time schedules. The company does not require a non-compete agreement.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Support families through end-of-life decisions and help them say goodbye with dignity and peace.
Answer families’ questions with kindness and explain care and options.
Travel independently to appointments in the listed service area.
Complete a schedule of two to five days per week, with weekend days selected by the veterinarian.
