About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and families in Albany, Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, and the surrounding metropolitan area. Care is delivered in clients’ homes, where veterinarians help families make informed decisions and say goodbye with dignity and peace. The role offers a slower-paced alternative to traditional clinic practice, with a few appointments per day and time to listen, explain, and support each family. Veterinarians practice independently in the field with team support, onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available by phone. Several schedule options are offered, from two to five days per week, including self-managed part-time scheduling. Compensation is guaranteed and varies with schedule, with quarterly bonus opportunities for the full-time options. Veterinarians choose four weekend days per month rather than working a fixed weekend rotation. There is no non-compete agreement.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Support families through end-of-life decisions and help them say goodbye with dignity and peace.
Listen to families, answer questions, and explain care options with compassion.
Practice independently while traveling to appointments in the service area.
Choose four weekend days per month to work.
