About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in West Chicago, DeKalb, Aurora, Hoffman, Hanover Park, and surrounding areas. The role focuses on end-of-life care in pets’ homes, giving veterinarians time to listen to families, explain care, and support dignified goodbyes. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. The position offers schedule options ranging from two to five days per week, including self-managed part-time schedules. Compensation depends on the selected schedule: five-day full-time roles offer a $135,000 base salary, four-day full-time roles start at $110,000, and two- or three-day schedules receive prorated compensation. Quarterly bonus opportunities are available. The employer states that it does not use non-compete agreements.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Support families through end-of-life decisions and goodbyes with compassion and clear explanations.
Travel independently to appointments in the designated service areas.
Participate in onboarding and mentorship as needed.
