About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Columbia, Chapin, Lexington, Elgin, and surrounding areas of South Carolina. The veterinarian will visit families in their homes and provide unrushed, dignified end-of-life care, including listening to families, answering difficult questions, and helping them say goodbye to their pets. The role involves independent mobile practice, supported by thoughtful onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available by phone. Schedules are self-managed, with options from two to five days per week. Weekend days are selected by the veterinarian, with four weekend days per month. The posting offers full-time and part-time schedule options and states that compensation depends on schedule, ranging from $50,000 to $130,000 for full-time compensation; specific examples include $90,000 base salary for a five-day full-time schedule and starting at $105,000 for a four-day full-time schedule. Generous quarterly bonus opportunities are available.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), VMD, or BVMS degree.
Valid U.S. driver's license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.
