About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice provides compassionate hospice and in-home euthanasia care for pets in their homes. The veterinarian serves families in the East Bay, including Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, and the surrounding metropolitan area. The role focuses on being fully present with pets and families, answering questions with kindness, and helping families say goodbye with dignity and peace. Veterinarians practice independently in the field, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. Schedules can range from two days per week to full time, with self-managed scheduling options. Compensation is guaranteed and prorated according to schedule, with stated ranges of $65,000 to $150,000 and generous quarterly bonus opportunities. Weekend work is arranged by the veterinarian, who chooses four weekend days per month. Heartstrings states that it does not require non-compete agreements.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.
