About The Position
Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Joliet, Kankakee, New Lenox, Plainfield, Illinois, and the surrounding metropolitan area. Care is delivered in pets’ homes, allowing veterinarians to be fully present with families and provide unhurried, dignified end-of-life support. The role involves independent mobile practice, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. Veterinarians can choose a schedule ranging from two to five days per week, including self-managed part-time scheduling options. Five-day and four-day full-time schedules offer guaranteed salary and quarterly bonus opportunities. Two- and three-day schedules, including DVM Flex-Scheduling, offer prorated compensation. Guaranteed compensation ranges from $45,000 to $125,000 depending on schedule. Weekend work is arranged by choosing four weekend days per month. The employer states that it does not use non-compete agreements.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
- Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.
Responsibilities
- Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
- Spend time listening to families, explaining care, answering difficult questions, and helping them say goodbye with dignity and peace.
- Practice independently while serving families across the listed Illinois communities and surrounding metropolitan area.
- Participate in onboarding, mentorship, and ongoing professional development.
- Choose four weekend days per month for work, coordinating them around personal commitments.
