About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Frederick and Hagerstown, Maryland, and the surrounding metropolitan area. Care is delivered in pets’ homes, with an emphasis on allowing time for conversations, questions, and dignified goodbyes. The position offers independent mobile practice with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and support from experienced colleagues. Veterinarians can choose a 5-day or 4-day full-time schedule, or 2- and 3-day schedules described as full-time and self-managed part-time options. Scheduling may be self-managed through DVM Flex-Scheduling. Guaranteed compensation ranges from $65,000 to $150,000 depending on schedule, with quarterly bonus opportunities. Weekend days are selected by the veterinarian: four weekend days per month. The employer does not require non-compete agreements.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver's license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Guide families through end-of-life decisions and answer their questions with compassion.
Help families provide their pets with dignified, peaceful goodbyes.
Work independently while traveling to appointments in the service area.
