About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Oceanside, San Clemente, Carlsbad, California, and the surrounding metropolitan area. The role focuses on thoughtful end-of-life care in pets’ homes, with time to listen to families, explain care, and help them say goodbye with dignity and peace. Veterinarians work independently in a mobile practice, supported by onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues. The position offers schedule options ranging from two days per week to full-time, with self-managed scheduling available for some part-time arrangements. Guaranteed compensation ranges from $65,000 to $155,000 depending on schedule, with quarterly bonus opportunities for specified full-time schedules. There is no non-compete agreement.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver's license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Listen to families, answer questions, explain care, and support them through end-of-life decisions and goodbyes.
Practice independently while using team support and mentorship when needed.
Choose four weekend days per month to work, according to personal scheduling needs.
