About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Vacaville, Fairfield, Vallejo, Santa Rosa, and the surrounding metropolitan area. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling to clients’ homes, helping families through end-of-life decisions and providing care at a thoughtful, unhurried pace. The role includes a small number of appointments each day, with no double-booking, and offers onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and access to experienced colleagues for support. Schedule options include five-day or four-day full-time schedules, as well as two- or three-day schedules and self-managed part-time DVM Flex-Scheduling. Compensation is prorated according to schedule, with guaranteed compensation ranging from $65,000 to $155,000, plus quarterly bonus opportunities. Weekend work is arranged by choosing four weekend days per month. The position has no non-compete agreement. Candidates complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before starting.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
