The Hospice IPU Registered Nurse provides comfort-focused hospice nursing care and supports patients and families through end-of-life journeys. The role includes advocating for patients, helping ensure their goals of care are communicated and prioritized, and providing basic hospice education and training to patients, families, and caregivers. The nurse works with an interdisciplinary team of hospice clinicians, including LPNs, aides, chaplains, social workers, and physicians. Most care takes place where patients live, including private residences and assisted living or skilled nursing facilities. The nurse typically makes 4–6 visits each day and visits the local program office once a week to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
