About The Position

As an admissions nurse at VITAS Healthcare, you are often the first face of hospice for patients and families. You lead their first in-depth discussion about end-of-life care, helping set expectations for the journey ahead. You travel within an assigned service area to meet with patients and families, assess patients’ needs, and explain hospice care and VITAS services. By listening empathetically and learning about each patient’s needs, wishes, and beliefs, you help determine whether hospice is appropriate and support a comfortable transition for those who choose VITAS. You work with a team to deliver compassionate, personalized care that honors each patient’s wishes.

Most admissions nurses work four 10-hour shifts per week, although schedules may vary. The role involves traveling to hospitals, nursing facilities, and patient residences as calls arrive.

Requirements

• Current RN license.
• Reliable transportation.
• Previous experience in a physician’s office, hospital, long-term care, or assisted living facility.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Determine whether hospice is the right path for the patient.
• Ensure a comfortable transition for patients who elect hospice care with VITAS.
• Travel within the assigned service area to assess patients at hospitals, nursing facilities, and residences.
