About The Position

Student Registered Apprenticeship positions integrate school-based and on-the-job learning with relevant technical education in the classroom. Participants gain employability and occupational skills. Local programs provide training based on statewide apprenticeship curriculum guidelines, endorsed by business and industry. Student Apprentices are instructed by qualified teachers and skilled journey worker worksite experts. Through on the job training, student apprentices will assist via their selected path (Electrical, Sheet Metal, Plumbing) in performing any combination of the following tasks: assemble, install, gathers tools and supplies to be used at work site according to instructions; measures, using ruler and hand and power tools; assists in lifting, performs minor repairs; maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order. Student Apprentices remain enrolled in academic classes to meet requirements in occupation specific related instruction classes.

Requirements

  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Elementary and some additional courses.
  • Language Skills: Elementary and some additional courses.
  • Specific Vocational Preparation: Over 30 days, up to three months.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be enrolled in a high school or home schooling equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist via their selected path (Electrical, Sheet Metal, Plumbing) in performing any combination of the following tasks: assemble, install, gathers tools and supplies to be used at work site according to instructions; measures, using ruler and hand and power tools; assists in lifting, performs minor repairs; maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
  • Remain enrolled in academic classes to meet requirements in occupation specific related instruction classes.
  • Attending to the work assignment instructions or orders of supervisor.
  • Using tools or work aids to work, move, guide or place objects or materials.
  • Inserting, throwing, dumping or placing materials in or removing them from machines or equipment which are automatic or tended or operated by other workers.
