About The Position

The HIMS Technician compiles, processes, and maintains patient records in accordance with healthcare requirements and standards. The role helps ensure records are complete and accurate by monitoring staff deficiencies, reviewing medical records, entering data into the PATCOM system, and correcting errors on daily exception reports.

Requirements

• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Graduate of an accredited college or university.

Nice To Haves

• Registered Health Information (RHIT) credential preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Medical Record Technology college or vocational school preferred.
• At least three years of hospital HIMS experience preferred in lieu of certification.
• One year of data entry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain delinquent records at less than 50% of the average discharge rate.
• Monitor staff deficiencies and ensure all IRF-PAI data elements are completed.
• Complete physician and staff deficiency checklists.
• Perform a final check of medical records before designating them complete.
• Abstract discharge dates for all discharged inpatients for the PATCOM system.
• Accurately enter all PATCOM HIMS data.
• Monitor and correct errors on daily exception reports.
