About The Position

The HIMS Technician compiles, processes, and maintains patient records in accordance with healthcare requirements and standards. The role supports accurate and complete health information management, including monitoring record deficiencies, checking records before completion, abstracting discharge dates, entering HIMS data, and correcting errors. The position is with Encompass Health, a national inpatient rehabilitation provider.

Requirements

• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.

Nice To Haves

• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited college or university.
• Medical Record Technology college or vocational school preferred.
• Minimum of three years of hospital HIMS experience preferred in lieu of certification.
• One year of data entry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain delinquent records at less than 50% of the average discharge rate.
• Monitor staff deficiencies and ensure all IRF-PAI data elements are completed.
• Complete physician and staff deficiency checklists.
• Perform a final check of medical records before designating them complete.
• Abstract discharge dates for the PATCOM system for all discharged inpatients.
• Accurately enter all PATCOM HIMS data.
• Monitor and correct errors on daily exception reports.
