About The Position

As a Highway Foreman 2 with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will take charge of vital roadway maintenance that supports the daily travel of thousands. You will guide operations, address field challenges, and support effective project planning.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience in the performance of lead work or skilled tradesman duties on a highway maintenance or construction project ; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the work of equipment operators and laborers during daily maintenance activities
  • Recommend, schedule, and organize maintenance tasks, equipment needs, and material use to reduce downtime
  • Maintain proper work zone traffic control and promote safe practices to protect crews and the public
  • Instruct crew members in correct tool use, maintenance procedures, and expected work standards
  • Keep clear records of field activities and promptly report unusual conditions, injuries, or equipment issues
  • Make minor field adjustments to vehicles and equipment using hand tools
