About The Position

This position serves as a direct first-line supervisor within the Department of Transportation and Development, District 08/Maintenance Section/Unit 560. The role is located in Winnfield, LA, and reports to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent. The incumbent must be self-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision, and able to interpret unforeseen conditions. Participation in DOTD structured programs and necessary continuing education is required. Employees must comply with all applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, regulations, and DOTD policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.
  • Maintain a Class A CDL license.
  • Meet all structured training requirements for this position.
  • Pass random drug testing.
  • Ability to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, and climb on and off equipment and trailer.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty pounds on a daily basis.
  • Willingness to work in all types of inclement weather and conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, leads, directs, and trains a work group in the safe performance of various tasks.
  • Plans, organizes, and records all activities and resources used on a daily basis.
  • Completes vehicle inspection reports, PPRs, accident investigation reports and complaint records.
  • Ensures all equipment is properly used, operated safely, and maintained in good working order.
  • Responds to emergencies after normal working hours, in all types of weather conditions (e.g., falling trees, snow/ice, traffic accidents, water over roadways) to ensure public safety.
  • Performs manual labor work tasks.
  • Occasionally performs the duties of a Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent in their absence.
  • Uses a cell phone, computer, and mobile PDA in the performance of normal job duties.
