High Voltage Battery Thermal CAE Engineer

Ford Motor Company•Dearborn, MI
•$65,100 - $166,200•Hybrid

About The Position

The Ford Global Electrified Propulsion Engineering Team is a growing team focused on creating compelling product experiences and developing battery architectures that deliver efficiency and value. The team works with global suppliers and collaborates across disciplines to design and innovate for future mobility. The High Voltage Battery Thermal CAE Engineer performs thermal and CFD analysis of high-voltage battery packs at system, subsystem, and component levels. The role uses simulation results and physical test data to guide battery design, support product development milestones, correlate CAE models, and help testing teams reduce physical testing through virtual test signoff. This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work four or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience in 1D and 3D thermal/CFD simulation techniques.
  • At least 2 years of working experience in thermal analysis supporting product development.
  • Expert knowledge of heat transfer theory and CAE thermal analysis simulation methods.
  • Working knowledge of CAE software tools for heat transfer analysis, such as StarCCM+, and CAE model-building tools such as Ansa and Hypermesh.
  • Working experience with CAD geometry cleanup for CAE, simulation model building and meshing, CAE model setup and running, and post-processing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Physical thermal testing experience, including thermal test data processing.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages.
  • Working knowledge or experience of high-voltage battery pack design and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform 1D and 3D thermal and CFD simulations on high-voltage battery packs at system, subsystem, and component levels using commercial CAE/CFD software to meet battery unit and vehicle development timing.
  • Post-process and report thermal simulation results to product development teams to guide battery design and support product development milestones.
  • Analyze and process vehicle and laboratory thermal test data from battery physical testing and use it to correlate CAE models.
  • Determine loading and boundary conditions for thermal CAE/CFD models based on vehicle and laboratory physical testing conditions.
  • Work with testing and battery D&R engineers to specify thermal testing and instrumentation of high-voltage battery packs for CAE correlation and physical test reduction.
  • Lead CAE-testing interactions and apply CAE thermal tools to support testing teams, test-reduction efforts, and virtual test signoff.

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, and subsidized backup childcare.
  • Family-building benefits, including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement and fertility treatments.
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members, and management leases.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Employee resource groups.
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service.
  • Paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Day.
