About The Position

This course explores world history through the lens of alcohol. Alcohol has been everything from a necessary part of the diet, to a sacred element of religious rites, to a celebratory beverage, to a demonized drug. Topics include alcohol in religious life, changing patterns of consumption and production, the rise and fall of prohibition, and changing ideas of alcohol abuse and addiction.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in History.
  • Ability to teach in-person.
  • Submit a CV.
  • Submit a Candidate Application Form (CAF).
  • Provide names and contact information for referees (for external applicants).
  • Provide evidence of good teaching (for external applicants).
  • Provide verification of highest degree (for external applicants).
  • Be legally able to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Research expertise in the subject matter of the course.
  • Prior teaching experience in the subject matter of the course.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures for the course HI110: The History of Alcohol.
  • Prepare and deliver course content for Fall 2026 term.
  • Manage a class size of approximately 200 students.
  • Adhere to the collective agreement for Contract Teaching Faculty and Part-time Librarians.
