About The Position

The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The operator inspects and monitors equipment, identifies unacceptable waste, completes minor equipment service and required reports, follows safety procedures, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills and the ability to act professionally, courteously, and cooperatively toward customers and coworkers.
• Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to follow through, adhere to a work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and a commitment to achieving goals.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections in accordance with Company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders using proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure it is operationally ready and minimize downtime; clean equipment tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other necessary reports, and report needed repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
