About The Position

The Health Educator identifies health education needs of the population of Rice County, and implements effective community-based health promotion strategies to address identified needs with a focus on policy, systems, and environmental change. Health promotion strategies may address one or more of the following areas: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco prevention, access to health care, mental health and wellness. The Health Educator engages in activities such as community health assessment, strategic planning, policy/ordinance development, community health education both in-person and written, health related social media postings, and grant implementation and evaluation. The Health Educator in this position will serve as the Rice County Public Health Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Community Health, Health Education or a health-related field
  • One to three years of public health education, or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and implements community-based health promotion strategies. Strategies may be grant specific, and generally focus on community health and wellness, injury prevention, and prevention of the leading causes of chronic disease.
  • SHIP grant implementation, reporting and evaluation.
  • Provides health education and information or classes for public and professional groups on a variety of topics, including but not limited to healthy eating, active lifestyle, tobacco prevention and cessation, and community health wellness topics.
  • Convenes community groups to gather input and assistance with community health initiatives, and participates in committees related to health promotion and wellness.
  • Assists with agency health promotion communications.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.
