About The Position

The Health Educator will be responsible for coordinating developmental activities that are focused on establishing a comprehensive preventative and health service program. This will include the implementation of a wide range of health education initiatives and services designed to promote healthy living, prevent illnesses, and address health disparities in the community. The candidate will work closely with other healthcare professionals and community leaders to identify health education needs and develop effective strategies for meeting these needs.

Requirements

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.).
  • Four (4) years of equivalent experience in a health related field or similar Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Must pass background check, physical, and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Knowledge of Tribal Health Services: Health Educator should know the available tribal health services, including primary care, behavioral health, and dental services, to help individuals connect with the appropriate resources.
  • Cultural Competency: Health Educator should appreciate and understand the cultural values and beliefs of the tribal community to tailor respectful and relevant health education initiatives.
  • Health Education: Health Educator must have a strong background in health education and public health, including effective communication strategies, health promotion theories, and behavior change models.
  • Program Development and Evaluation: Health Educator must have experience in program development and evaluation, including setting program goals and objectives, developing program materials, and evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Community Outreach: Health Educator must have experience in community outreach, including collaborating with community leaders, stakeholders, and healthcare providers to develop effective health education programs.
  • Communication Skills: Health Educator must have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate health information to the community.
  • Analytical Skills: Health Educator must have strong analytical skills to evaluate and interpret health data, identify trends, and develop evidence-based health education initiatives.
  • Project Management Skills: Health Educator must have excellent project management skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Health Educator must have experience working collaboratively with healthcare providers, community members, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective health education initiatives.
  • Empathy and Compassion: Health Educator should approach their work with sensitivity and a desire to improve the health and well-being of the community facing significant health disparities, including high rates of chronic disease, mental health concerns, and substance abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement culturally appropriate health education programs and initiatives for the tribal community, focusing on addressing health disparities and improving health outcomes.
  • Provides technical guidance and works with Omaha Tribe Health Board, CHN's, Community Health Representatives, Emergency Medical Technicians, Public School officials, and all others concerned with the promotion of a preventative health service program within the Health Center and community.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, community members, and other stakeholders to identify health needs and develop effective health education strategies.
  • Conduct outreach to the Omaha Tribe and community to promote health education programs and initiatives, including coordinating and participating in community events and health fairs.
  • Develop and distribute health education materials, such as brochures, flyers, and posters, to educate the community on a variety of health topics.
  • Conduct needs assessments and evaluations to determine the effectiveness of health education programs and initiatives, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret health data to identify trends and prioritize health education initiatives.
  • Provide training and support to healthcare providers and other community stakeholders on effective health education strategies and techniques.
  • Serve as a liaison between the tribal community and healthcare providers, helping community members navigate the healthcare system and connect with appropriate resources.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of health education programs and initiatives, including attendance, outcomes, and evaluations.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest research, trends, and best practices in health education and public health, and incorporate this knowledge into health education programs and initiatives.
