About The Position

The Health Care Interpreter (HCI) provides accurate and professional language interpretation to patients, families, and staff. This includes in-person appointments at clinic locations and telephonic or video communication. The HCI assists with front-end operations for patients, such as scheduling appointments, onboarding new patients, and translating documentation as requested.

Requirements

  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum One (1) year of interpretation experience
  • Oregon Health Authority Certified or Qualified (HCI)
  • Fluency in written and oral Spanish
  • Excellent written and oral English/Spanish language skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • High level of self-awareness and cultural competence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to gather the necessary information to make triage-related decisions and problem-solve low to moderate-complexity situations.
  • Ability to be self-directed in accomplishing the coordination and decision-making responsibilities of this position
  • Ability to be organized and flexible in response to changing demands.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work under pressure.
  • Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record.

  • Immunizations are a requirement for employment to help ensure a safe and healthy workplace by reducing the risk of communicable diseases. TCC requires proof of vaccination including MMR, Hepatitis B, Tdap, Varicella, Influenza, and TB Screening.

Responsibilities

  • Answer the telephone professionally and courteously, scheduling patient appointments following procedures for proper timing and routing.
  • Follow established guidelines to route complex messages to medical staff.
  • Provide thorough, timely, and accurate interpreting for patients, families, providers, and staff.
  • Serve as a resource to patients, families, and staff
  • Establish and maintain quality service and positive interaction with patients, families, providers, and staff.
  • Explain clinic resources, office protocols, and processes to patients and families
  • Assist with patient follow-up as needed.
  • Participate in patient outreach to achieve ongoing quality measures and maintain scheduling guidelines.
  • Sustain excellent patient interactions using clear communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient information at all times.
  • Successfully work in a fast-paced, changing environment with effective time management and the ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Independently recognize, interpret, and evaluate situations and their level of urgency.
  • Display high standards of office conduct.
