About The Position

SOSi is seeking qualified, professional, and experienced Spanish interpreters in Raleigh, North Carolina. The interpreter will support a broad range of business activities in a call/contact center environment by providing language interpretation to meet customer needs. The position is full time, shift-based, and scheduled for 40 hours per week. It is not eligible for remote work.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience interpreting in a judicial environment.
• Legal ability to work in the United States.
• High proficiency in English and Spanish vocabularies used in formal, consultative, and casual communication in justice-system contexts, including colloquial slang, idiosyncratic slang, and regionalisms.
• Knowledge of specialized English and Spanish legal and criminal justice terminology and immigration procedures.
• Fluency in spoken English and Spanish across language registers, including regional colloquialisms and slang, with clear and intelligible pronunciation.
• Ability to perform simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation accurately, without changes, omissions, or additions.
• Ability to preserve the speaker’s tone and emotional level and manage delivery, speed, and statement length, including projection, pace, and pausing.
• Ability to maintain appropriate speed and projection while interpreting and request and incorporate clarification only when justified.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with video remote and over-the-phone interpreting is strongly preferred.
• Cisco WebEx experience.
• Federal, State, National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT), and/or American Translators Association (ATA) interpretation certifications.
• Experience providing interpretation for Department of Justice (DOJ) Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) court cases.

Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between Spanish and English in both directions.
• Provide over-the-phone and video remote interpreting for limited English proficiency (LEP) individuals as required.
• Perform sight translation by reading written documents aloud in another language.
• Conduct quality control reviews of translated documents as required.
• Perform other duties as required.
