About The Position

SOSi is seeking qualified, professional, and experienced Spanish interpreters in Tucson, Arizona. The interpreter supports a broad range of business activities in a call/contact-center environment by meeting customer interpretation needs. The role provides interpretation between Spanish and English, including remote interpretation and sight translation, and may include reviewing translated documents for quality control. This is a full-time, shift-based position scheduled for 40 hours per week and is not eligible for remote work.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience interpreting in a judicial environment.
• Legal ability to work in the United States.
• High proficiency in English and Spanish vocabulary used in formal, consultative, and casual communication in justice-system contexts, including colloquial slang, idiosyncratic slang, and regionalisms.
• Knowledge of specialized English and Spanish legal and criminal-justice terminology and immigration procedures.
• Fluency in spoken English and Spanish across language registers, regional colloquialisms, and slang, with clear and intelligible pronunciation.
• Ability to perform simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation accurately, without changes, omissions, or additions.
• Ability to preserve the speaker’s tone and emotional level and manage the delivery, speed, and length of statements, including projection, pace, and pausing.
• Ability to maintain appropriate speed and projection while interpreting and to request and incorporate clarification only when justified.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with video remote and over-the-phone interpreting.
• Cisco WebEx experience.
• Federal, State, National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT), and/or American Translators Association (ATA) interpretation certification.
• Experience interpreting Department of Justice (DOJ) Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) court cases.

Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between Spanish and English, in both directions.
• Provide over-the-phone and video remote interpreting for individuals with limited English proficiency as required.
• Perform sight translation by reading a written document in one language aloud in another language.
• Review translated documents for quality control as required.
• Perform other duties as required.
