About The Position

The Spanish Interpreter provides translation and interpretation services to non-English-speaking patients and their families during clinical visits. The interpreter works directly with medical staff to support accurate communication and understanding between patients and staff. The position also assists patients with intake paperwork and helps a social service worker and patient complete the social service intake process. Travel to local agencies or hospitals may be needed to provide interpreting services. The listed functions are not all-inclusive.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pre-employment screening includes a drug screen, background check, and review of required immunizations; exemptions may be granted for religious or medical accommodation. Requirements

• Fluency in verbal, reading, and written communication in Spanish and English.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Knowledge of cultural barriers to medical care and the ability to diminish barriers on behalf of patients and SCHC.
• Knowledge of medical terminology in both Spanish and English.
• High school diploma or GED.

• Previous interpreting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide translation services and support non-English-speaking patients and their families during clinical visits.
• Work directly with medical staff to ensure accurate communication and understanding between patients and staff.
• Assist patients in completing intake forms at their initial visit, including demographic and medical history information and financial verification.
• Assist the social service worker and patient in completing the social service intake process.
• Travel to local agencies or hospitals to provide interpreting services as needed.
