About the position
We are seeking an experienced Compliance professional to join our team as maternity cover. This role is crucial in maintaining compliance standards, particularly in the United Kingdom, and will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our UK license, ensuring AML policies and processes are in place globally, and updating internal policies and procedures. Additionally, they will provide compliance support to other teams within the business and monitor our compliance controls. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Smarkets's UK license and act as the primary point of contact with the Gambling Commission
- Carry out responsibilities of MLRO, including analyzing internal reports for suspicious activity and filing external reports with relevant FIUs
- Update internal policies, procedures, and risk assessments in line with operational changes and industry developments
- Monitor relevant gambling and AML legislation, regulations, license conditions, and industry guidance
- Provide compliance support to other teams within the business, such as product or marketing teams
- Monitor compliance controls to ensure regulatory requirements are met through regular proactive testing
- Develop an internal training program covering AML, safer gambling, and regulatory compliance
- Provide relevant reporting and updates to management and the board on compliance matters
Requirements
- 3+ years experience as a senior compliance leader in the gambling industry
- Direct experience working with the UK market and managing communication with the Gambling Commission
- Excellent knowledge of AML regulations and operating practices for the UK and Malta, that would make you suitable to hold the role of MLRO/Nominated Officer
- High attention to detail, data driven approach and thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to communicate effectively with stakeholders from Leadership Team to entry level employees
- Holding an existing PML would be a benefit
