About The Position

The Groundskeeper helps maintain a clean and safe environment for Zoo guests, animals, and staff. The role involves completing grounds cleanliness and upkeep duties in a fast-paced, goal-driven setting while coordinating with multiple departments to meet their needs. Work takes place in a variety of areas, including behind-the-scenes staff areas and outdoor exhibits. The position requires availability to work weekends and after hours for events as needed. The Houston Zoo connects communities with animals and inspires action to save wildlife. Its staff supports the care of more than 6,000 animal residents and serves more than 2 million guests each year. The organization focuses on wildlife and habitat preservation through conservation, education, and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods in local communities.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
One to three months of relevant work experience.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.
Ability to partner across teams and with staff at all levels.
Positive attitude, good communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to work weekends and after hours for events as needed.

Nice To Haves

Preferred experience in commercial, institutional, industrial, or similar settings.

Responsibilities
