About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. Work includes outdoor construction and maintenance in changing and sometimes extreme weather conditions, and may involve travel, extended assignments, emergency response, and on-call rotations. The position requires rigorous physical labor and adherence to safety protocols, including proper use and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulated protective cover.

Requirements

Valid driver's license.
Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Willing to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Able to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Build, maintain, and repair underground electrical distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation and pulling equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, and excavators.
Follow safety protocols, use appropriate PPE, and understand insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment.
Work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
